Launched in April 2013 Spree.co.za (part of Media24’s Ecommerce division) is a leading online fashion retailer and the first online shop to offer a magazine-styled shopping experience. Spree has an entire spectrum of clothing, accessories and footwear for ladies, men, kids and babies  from local designers and suppliers as well as international brands and labels.

Unique to Spree is an elegant design style that is expressed across the shopping platform, email publications, editorial images and their digital magazine which offers style advice and fashion stories.

Prices on Spree are comparable with bricks-and-mortar fashion stores like Edgars and Foshini but with the convenience of a massive range to choose from but as usual guessing at sizes is a negative.

Registration is simple with just a few details required but there is no way to opt-out of the the newsletter at registrations (although you can choose which newsletter you want to receive). You get logged-in immediately and you get two welcome emails, one for registering and the other for the newsletter.

There is a voucher of R100 off your next purchase for signing up to the newsletter, conditional on you buying more than  R250.

The order system  is the usual with cart, wishlist and checkout. That’s the last of easy you’ll see because now you have to fill in an address and payment options. It feels a bit like an essay, but once the data is captured, it pops up on one page for payment.

You can pay on Spree using your Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card, via electronic funds transfer (EFT), SnapScan or payment on delivery in specific areas.

Spree delivers orders over R250 free of charge within South Africa, either door-to-door or door-to-counter, depending on where you’re located. For orders under R250, there is a R50 fee depending on where you’re located. If you reside outside of a main center but would like door-to-door delivery you can select that delivery option for a R200 delivery fee.

During checkout, Spree determines your delivery options based on your delivery address and postal code. For South African orders, delivery is within 2 – 6 working days. For deliveries to Namibia it will be within 10 working days.

One great thing is that if you are not happy with your purchase, Spree allows you to you to return your purchase FREE OF CHARGE within 30 days of receiving it. See their delivery and returns policy.

If you have questions, there is plenty of help on the site but also a customer support centre that can be reached Monday to Friday, 07:00 to 18:00 and Saturdays, 09:00 to 13:00 on 087 740 1010. You can also email support@spree.co.za.

[UPDATE: July 2016 – Plenty of complaints and unhappy customers the last few months with Spree on hellopeter.com.]

You can find Spree on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube and Instagram.

Summary:

There is not much negative anyone can say online regards Spree. It has a good looking website and access to a wide range of quality stock and a good returns policy. Spree offers an all-round good experience and it is a store you can trust.

I have one late criticism. The store logs you out pretty-damn-quick if you are inactive, necessitating you to have to log-in again. Not a big thing but a bit irritating.
