Mantality has been around since 2008 as an online store aimed exclusively at men. I signed up early, but most of the items it carried then were “toys” or expensive fashion items and “gadgets”. I honestly didn’t think there was a market, but I am happy to be proved wrong and Mantality has grown and now features 1000s of gadgets and products to keep men in a kind of “man bliss”. They are also regularly featured in some of South Africa’s top print magazines like NAG, Men’s Health, FHM, Popular Mechanics, GQ, Stuff and TechSmart.

Categories include gadgets, technology, mobile accessories, electronics (get your drone here), games and gaming, grooming (including fragrances and hair care), health supplements, style and fashion, gifts for men and “stuff”.

Prices are comparable with what is available elsewhere online and with similar brick-and-mortar-shops, if not tending a bit towards the expensive side. Then again, most of their stock is “droolware” (stuff you wouldn’t buy for yourself but wish you could).

The site is well laid out and easy to navigate and a good first place to stop if looking for “manly” stuff or gifts, even if it is only to get ideas and pricing before a visit to the mall (or hinting to your lady).

The sign up process for Mantality is quick and does not expect you to fill in a life history, although you can fill out a profile later. There is no waiting or confirmation process for your account to be live. You choose to opt-in to the newsletter and it is easy to opt-out. You currently get a R50 voucher for signing up. Mantality has a fair amount of vouchers, promotions and specials although they can clog the inbox sometimes.

One thing I did find irritating on visiting the site was the, now standard, huge pop-up box prompting you to sign up for the newsletter. It is on a cookie, so you should only see it occasionally.

Ordering is the normal “add to cart” system with a checkout, and payment is by Credit Card, Paypal,  EFT or Bank Deposit. If you live in Gauteng you can collect at the Mantality warehouse in JHB, and pay on collection. There is no COD available

Mantality promises next day delivery (in major centers) and free delivery for orders over R499. Word-of-mouth and a bit of research online indicates that their service is excellent.

Returns are within 14 days, in the original packaging, by courier, which you must pay for.

You can find Mantality on Twitter , Facebook, Instagram, Google+ and YouTube

Summary:

Mantality is not a bad place to shop or compare prices. Prices compare well (mostly), their range is excellent, ordering and payment are easy, delivery prompt and service excellent. Their returns policy is a bit narrow though.
